Kids Write the Darndest Things

Last week we went up the "Ranch" in Idaho to do some work on the house (the house my dad grew up in) that my partents will be moving into at some point...maybe in the next year? Anyway, while we were there, we went through some of the random stuff in the rooms and I found the following letter. It was written by my older sister, Anna, when she was 7 (the envelope was dated May 1986). My grandparents had taken me, my younger brother and younger sister to stay with them for a while...I don't remember for how long as I was only 5. But, I do remember going to pre-school while I was there, which Anna references. So, without further delay...here it is!

anna, there is sooooo much about this letter that i LOVE!
1. you refer to us as the children
2. you ask if we are watching tv...cause we could only do that at the grandparents. i suspect you were a tad jealous.
3. you want to look at my school work
4. you love manda most of all but aren't afraid to embarass her.
5. you have amazing spelling and grammar for a 7 year old. i don't think i can write a better composed letter to this very day.
6. you had trouble spelling you last name.
i love this letter so very much. i can just image grandma and grandpa reading it. oh, they probably melted! i love you, anna!

I read this again tonight, and it's soooo funny it makes me CRY! I hope grandma and grandpa cried, too.
And, yes, Rachel,
1. interesting that I refered to you guys as the children...I wonder what I was thinking?!
2. I am sure I WAS jealous, though I can't imagine you were watching much of anything interesting, only the ugly news!
3. I am sure I was jealous of your fun times in preschool.
4. funny me.
5. I am sure, though, that my 7yr old spelling and grammar are nothing to think much of, I was always just normal.
6. I love that the salutation and my name have different sized letters- big and small and alternate. Calligraphy at work at such a young age! haha!

really, though, I am tickled that you found this. thanks for sharing it!
